About Taiwan
When Portuguese sailors first saw Taiwan from their vessels more than 500 years ago, they named it "ihla Formosa", means beautiful island, that why till today you sometime still hear people call Taiwan as Formosa. Anyway, the Portuguese had never board the island.
I will say that Taiwan is an interesting, surprising, beautiful, amazing and friendly place worth visiting.
History
Interesting is because the aboriginals had been living in the country for about 8,000 years before mass immigration by the Han Chinese commenced in the 17th century and gone through the influenced by Dutch, Japan and after the second world war the ROC lead by the than Chinese Government led by the Kuomintang, took Taiwan. This make Taiwan has a very high races tolerant, a very mixed of difference culture into Taiwan's present culture.
Wear a Mouth Mask
Taiwanese are hygienic or responsible people, they wear a mask when they have a flu or cough, this will help to stop transmitting. You also see many motorist on bike wearing mouth mask too, not because they are contacted with flu or cough, but to prevent themselves for inhaling too much exhaust gas while riding on the road.
Not many rubbish bins on the street
There are not many rubbish bins found outdoor, you also don't see many rubbishes are on the floor, because they are taught not to leave rubbish behind.
Most of the local will bring the rubbish home or to dispose them in the convenient store. You are advised to bring along a garbage bag when you are to be outdoor the whole day long.
Yellow Truck play loud music
"Beethoven's Fur Elise" can be heard in the street of Taiwan on the regular basic, this means the garbage trucks is coming and prompt people to bring their garbage to the truck to disposed them, not selling things, food or advertisement.
The other white truck paly a local song "any bee bottle to sell", is the one to collect recycle wastes.
Convenience Stores
The density of convenience stores in Taiwan (7-11, Family Mart, OK Mart and Hi-life) hit the highest level in the world, you not find them in town city, but country side and some up on the high mountain too.
Convenience store in Taiwan do far more things than simply selling food, snacks, hot food, microwave food and beverage.
One can buy train tickets, domestic air-ticket, sending and receiving fax, photo copy service, pay your parking fees, pay your bills, couriers service and almost all of them has a ATM machine in the store.
Night Market - Must Visit
Almost all visitors to Taiwan will want to visit the night market, it's a good Taiwanese experience that is not to be missed.
All major city has at least one night market, mostly are open nightly and offer a variety of fresh Taiwanese snacks, clothing, carnival games and fun accessories.
Some markets are busy normal city streets during the day that transform to bustling markets in the evening. Others are established locations that are closed during the day but open in the evening.
The Fruit Kingdom
The geographic location makes Taiwan a great place for growing Tropical and subtropical fruits, such as bananas, mangoes, guava, pineapples, starfruits, strawberries, sugar apple, dragon fruit, wax apple, papaya and many other.
Not only the tropical and subtropical fruits, places which is at about 1,000 meter above sea level, one can find apples, asian pears, persimmons etc., fruit from the cold country.
Taiwan produce 2 t0 3 million tons of fruits a year, all these fruits other than for local consumption it also exports to countries like, Japan, USA, Singapore, Canada, Korean, China and etc., that is why Taiwan is also known as "Fruit of Kingdom".
So, when you are here one should not miss out the fruits, some you may find them in your country but I am sure you will find them very much difference here, because of the soil and water make the difference.
Biking is popular
Taiwan has becoming more bike-friendly country, it is easy to get a bicycle in the major cities - Taipei, New Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung to get around the city sites for locals and visitors, other than the metro cities you will be able to find rental bicycle in front of some of the place of interesting too.
For cycling enthusiast, you will agree that if you get here, you will notice that Taiwan has an incredible number of bicycle lanes, bike shops, resting area for biking person, cycling events.
Renting a bike to go round the island is possible, and there is organized and guided bicycle tour for booking.
Other interesting things
Bubble tea was invented here, and tea shops are very popular here, you find them almost everywhere.
Baseball is most popular sport in Taiwan and almost become the national sport. There are many professional players here who play for USA and Japanese Clubs.
A favorite Taiwanese pastime activity is to hanging out at the local hot springs.
You can visit public spring in your swim suit, or soak in private baths (separated by gender) in the nude or booked a room to enjoyed your bath by yourself or with your love-one.
There's a lot of artistic freedom in Taiwan, you can spend all afternoon wandering around artistic parks that house galleries, outdoor installations and coffee shops.
